What’s in a domain name?

Continuing my new website idea and development…

So I own a bunch of domain names. At last count about 60 some. Down from 70 some.

(I’m trying to cut down.)

So I was going to use the domain, Top10iOSApps.com for my new site.

Fairly good domain name. Pretty descriptive. Google will like all the keywords in the name, etc.

But I after careful consideration I decided…

It sucked.

Too generic. Not much to wrap a brand around. Never been a big fan of generic or descriptive domain names.

I want something cool.

So I decided on:

VICEROI.COM

What? You no likey? Don’t get it?

I do. For these reasons. It’s a commonly understood word, just spelled differently. The spelling is in fact the REAL way you’re supposed to spell it – if you are olde English. If you google viceroi right now you’ll find it is not a crowded term. It’s unique. It’s not descriptive at all which is helpful in branding because the name can become the meaning of the site. Etc., Etc., Et Cetera.

I like it. Still like it.

So I now need a logo. I will show you next time…

Continued from my last post I thought I’d start by explaining my idea.

I think it would be cool to have an iOS app store. Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

Here is the business problem. There are too many apps. People are in need of finding a way to find the apps they want.

My site might help.

So not to let the whole cat head of out the bag at once, I’ll leave it at that.

Sure there are lots of App sites out there. Most are terrifically lame. I don’t do lame. I do cool.

I am attempting to develop a new website.

That doesn’t sound particularly interesting. If you know me I am a bit of a serial web “developer.” I put developer in quotes because I am not a programmer.

I am an idea guy. Yeah, one of those.

I’ve had my share of good and bad website idea (some actually made money). These days, they call websites, “companies”. After all websites are not just static HTML anymore. They can be fully dynamic platforms. So yeah, I got lots of ideas for web sites, planforms, companies, etc.

So with my newest venture I decided to crowd source each task element of the site.

What do I mean?

Let’s start by breaking down each major task element of my newest site idea.

1. logo

2. site design

3. coding

So I have this idea and I don’t want or in most of the cases can’t do the major task elements. So I am going to seek the internets help.

But before we get into each of these I will explain my idea… next time.

The thing about this video, assuming it’s real which may be a bad assumption, is that it shows us something about this guy.

Sure you can find not-smart people anywhere, but this guy not only is not embarrassed, but he finds her so fascinating that he shows the world.

Gotta love a man that loves his woman. I’m sure the same case could be made for the opposite. However, I have no YouTube evidence to support it. So we’ll have to just stick with what he know…

No matter how much air pressure is in her head.

It’s a good lesson to my 3 sons. Boys, love your wives. Just don’t bring one home like this.

Ok, cool. So a guy can now fly. check out this video. Pretty amazing.

I was thinking, pretty cool stuff until I saw his arms flapping. Really? He’s going to flap is arms and go hundreds of feet of the ground?

Uh, what if he gets tired?

Well what good would the internets be with out it’s skeptics?

I think both videos are fake. I only trust politicians.

So this is what you are afraid of?!

My oldest daughter is about to graduate from high school.

*sigh*

Bout time! But I digress.

She is afraid of needles. Not a particularly interesting fact in any other manner except she is allowing this little fear to change the course of her life.

Now that I find interesting.

She wants to be a midwife. Midwives use needles. See where this is headed?

Isn’t it amazing how the thing you are most afraid of in life just so happens to be EXACTLY what you are supposed to do?!

No? Not you? K.

So back to our story. I decided I would do a lil googling to see what can be done to get over this issue. Yeah, apparently you can actually get over certain fears. In fact you can get over about anything… with the help of Google.

So I began to type into Google. “How to get over the fear of…”

Hmmm. Uh huh. I see. I see.

Flying? Understandable I guess.

Heights? Guilty!

AH! Needles!

Oh but for the sake of entertainment, let’s keep going…

Rejection? Ouch? Someone’s got issues.

Driving? This can only be the parents of teenagers.

Death? That one should take care of itself.

Commitment? You’ll get no sympathy from me, sir.

Blood. Sure.

Dogs. Got bit once running.

Clowns? Ok, let’s talk about this one, shall we? Now I’m going to assume this isn’t a joke. So why, please do tell, are people so concerned about this fear they feel the need to find a cure?

What, do they drive by a clown school on their commute to work every morning?

I’ll save you the trouble and tell you the answer to all of these.

Do what you fear.

And that doesn’t mean marry a clown.
