First things first, this game has been billed as an 8 bit game. After looking at a few screen shots I had my doubts. From causal appearances this with probably what I would call a “neo-8 bit” iOS game. More on that later.
The (Other) Steve
It seems everytime Steve “The other co-founder of Apple” Wozniac opens his mouth it makes blog headlines. Not real headlines of course. That’s because on slow news days someone manages to get a quote out of him regarding some criticism he has for Apple – usually something uber petty and makes for good link bait. Yawn.
Now, however, it looks like The Woz has been busy offering his Woziness to an iOS game called Woz with a Coz. So yeah, turning Steve into a video game character will garner you some attention but is the game any good?
I downloaded this game and first examined the graphics…
Hmm. Ok, pretty cool graphics but not your traditional 8 bit graphics.
So they combine some pretty nice smooth graphics with some rougher pixely graphics. The game play itself utilizes the rougher ended graphics for the players.
Ok, so the typefaces they use in the game are 8 bit. The game did have a few 8 bit sounds. But the music was not.
I played it for awhile. I’m not going to provide you with a true game review here but a couple thoughts. I had my 11 year old son play it. He did so for about 5 minutes. That never happens. He didn’t like it.
Zipop’s 8 bit piece of advice: If you are truly wanting 8 bit retro type graphics, music and sounds, Vengence: Woz with a Coz is NOT the game for you. I’d keep looking.
