So Viceroi.com has it’s branding now. The wordpress shell is up. I’ll need to select a theme soon. But this site has a major obstacle.
It needs to have the ability to parse individual RSS feeds from the Apple App Store.
Sounds easy right?
Nope. Kinda difficult as it turns out. Try it. You can’t just take an RSS feed and put it into Worpdress and get individual items, or in this case Apps to display correctly.
So where does one find a programmer to complete such a task?
The internets.
I decided since I know a programmer who can help me though the difficulties in remotely hiring a programmer I was confident this would be a good project to try.
So I registered on Odesk.com.
I then posted a job, something like “I need a parser for individual RSS feeds to place into a WordPress Page Template.
Within a few hours I had about a dozen programmers from all over the world asking for the project! Pretty cool!
Granted, most of these programmers were from India and other countries in the pacific rim. But hey, I was up for the challenge.
I soon learned most had a little trouble understanding the task. Probably because of the language barrier. I narrowed the field down to about 5 and began to discuss the finer points of the project.
I did notice several programmers either withdrew themselves or failed to respond. I think this had to do with the number of days it took me to properly respond and narrow the selection process. It was my first time and I didn’t know what I was doing!
I got it down to two. Then I just hit the “HIRE” button. BOOM! Here we go!
Yesterday I Skype chatted with the programmer for a few minutes and I think he got it. He is from Malaysia. They’re smart over there. He’s probably sleeping right now.
He said we would have something to show me in a couple days.
So now, we wait….
